We are delighted to introduce Communications AI & Computing, a new open access, editorially selective member of Nature Portfolio’s Communications series. By bringing together rigorous research, innovative methodologies, and transformative applications, we aim to be a forum for advancing the frontiers of artificial intelligence and computational science.
Our scope spans the entire spectrum of artificial intelligence and computational technologies: from machine learning developments and applications in fields like natural language processing, computer vision, or scientific discovery, to foundational pillars such as algorithms, data structures, computer systems, software engineering, and the emerging domain of quantum computing. We are particularly interested in societal aspects of AI research, such as AI ethics and sustainability of computational structures.
At Communications AI & Computing, we seek to promote collaboration across disciplines, encourage responsible innovation, and provide a platform where theoretical insights meet practical impact.
The in-house editorial team at Communications AI & Computing will work closely with expert colleagues at Nature Communications, as well as an external academic editorial board spanning the whole breadth of the computational science community.

Following the mission of the Communications series, we will complement the rest of the portfolio by publishing high-quality, open, and peer-reviewed research that enhances and brings new insights or practical advances to the fields of AI and computational science. To maximise the reach and rigour of our publications, we will build upon three pillars:
- Strict reporting standards: Quality and transparency are at the heart of rigorous science. We will champion this idea by requiring comprehensive reporting of the works published with us, including comparisons withing their research area. Enabling readers to trust and contextualise the findings will strengthen the integrity and impact of every article we publish.
- Open research: We are committed to making knowledge accessible to all. By embracing open access and mandating the sharing of data and code, we ensure that research published in Communications AI & Computing can be freely explored, validated, and built upon by the global scientific community.
- Cross-disciplinarity and diversity: Innovation thrives at the intersection of fields and peoples. Our journal welcomes research that bridges AI, computational science, and related disciplines, while aiming to engage researchers from different communities and backgrounds to address complex challenges and create transformative solutions at all levels of society.
We believe Communications AI & Computing represents an exciting addition in the landscape of AI and computational science publishing. We invite researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders to join us in this endeavour: Submit your research and be part of this journey!
