Australian universities offer 4-year MD (Doctor of Medicine) programs designed for students with a prior undergraduate degree, typically in biomedical science or a related field.
To apply for these MD programs, students usually need:
- A recognized bachelor’s degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- A good GAMSAT or MCAT score
- Proof of English proficiency (IELTS or OET)
AMC is not required for admission into MD programs offered by universities like the University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, Monash University, etc.
2. Specialist Medical College Pathways
If you already have a specialty (like surgery, internal medicine, etc.), you can apply directly to specialist medical colleges in Australia. This is known as the Specialist Pathway.
Colleges like:
- Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS)
may assess your qualifications and allow you to enter training or work under supervision—without AMC exams, depending on your experience and credentials.
3. Competent Authority Pathway
If you have completed your internship or PG training in countries like the UK, USA, New Zealand, or Canada, you may be eligible to bypass the AMC exams through the Competent Authority Pathway.
This route recognizes training done in certain countries and offers a direct route to limited registration.
