At Barker College, maths education goes beyond traditional workbooks.

Students are building confidence through Mathletics, our online maths program for schools, designed for ages 5–16.

Through engaging activities, gamified challenges and immediate feedback, the program delivers personalised learning that provides both support and challenge for academic success.

Mathletics’ structured approach enables progress at an individual pace, while creative features like the Avatar Maker maintain engagement and motivation.

Whether in the classroom or at home, students can work at their own level, accessing complete curriculum-aligned content from fundamentals through to extension. As one learner shares:

“I’ve had it since kindergarten. I’ve learned my times tables, additions and division from it. And it helps me with my basic and extra learning.”

For teachers like Mrs Graham, the impact is clear:

“My students love Mathletics because it’s so engaging. It’s interactive and provides variety from their everyday workbook material… I’d recommend Mathletics to any colleague because it saves us so much time. Everything is ready to go with just a click of a button.”

Personalised learning: Meeting students where they are

Differentiation becomes effortless with Mathletics. As Ms Foord, a teacher at Barker College, emphasises:

“I have access to content below and above my stage so students with a variety of needs can access the content at their level… you can alter it according to each topic and each student.”

Students also appreciate this customised approach:

“Your teacher can assign you different levels. So if you’re finding things too hard the teacher can assign you lower levels.”

This flexible approach ensures that advanced learners can be challenged with higher-level content while those needing additional support can build their foundational skills.

Teachers can easily customise learning, set individual goals and assign specific activities based on each student’s needs.

Real-time progress tracking to inform teaching

With Mathletics’ comprehensive curriculum and built-in assessment tools, teachers at Barker College can easily track student progress and fill learning gaps. Mrs Graham highlights one of her favourite features:

“I love grid view function in Mathletics. The different colours tell me which students are at risk, which ones are achieving and which ones I probably need to teach again.”

This visual reporting system allows teachers to quickly identify trends and make informed decisions, while generating reports to share student progress with parents and colleagues.

Versatility in teaching and learning

The program’s flexibility spans different learning contexts. As Ms Foord explains:

“There are lots of different options for activities. I can use it as a modelling task at the beginning of the lesson… in group rotations and I can set it for homework.”

Beyond the classroom, Mathletics’ Student Centre offers three key learning areas: Learn, Revise and Assess. Here, students can also personalise their avatars, set achievement goals and earn rewards for their progress.

The interactive environment encourages both collaboration and friendly competition, keeping students engaged whether they’re at school or home.

Students particularly value the built-in support:

“If you’re doing a task, there’s always an animation and if you get stuck, you don’t need to go to your teacher first, you can just press the ‘i’ button… and you’ll get used to new strategies fast.”

How This Primary School Drove Student Engagement and Boosted Maths Confidence

Building maths confidence

At Barker College, success in maths goes beyond basic skills. Teachers see how the program boosts student confidence through meaningful experiences. As Mrs Graham explains:

“I really like the problem-solving and reasoning activities because they allow students to apply their learned knowledge in new and abstract ways.”

The combination of engaging activities, built-in support and opportunities for deeper thinking creates an environment where students don’t just learn mathematics – they thrive in it.

The student verdict? One says it all:

“The things that I like about Mathletics? Pretty much everything!”
