About Brett

Brett Fischer is an English as a Second Language teacher and researcher at Cégep André-Laurendeau in Montreal, Canada. He holds a PhD in Integrated Studies in Education from McGill University and has led projects funded by the Canada–Québec Agreement and the Programme d’aide à la recherche sur l’enseignement et l’apprentissage focusing on learner autonomy, short-term pedagogical study abroad, and learning in authentic contexts. Deeply committed to improving teaching and learning, he has contributed to several institutional and provincial committees, including the revision of the new ministerial ESL curriculum framework. His notable achievements include the article “Teachers’ Perspectives on Pedagogy in Short-Term Language Study Abroad,” published in Foreign Language Annals; the website Facilitating Study Abroad, developed in collaboration with the Centre collégial de développement de matériel didactique; and the podcast RASCALS’ Roundtable, created for English language teachers. He is currently leading a team on a project funded through the Canada–Québec Agreement to develop resources supporting the implementation of the new curriculum frameworks that he helped author.
