‘It’s Really Making Life So Much Easier’: The Power of 3 Essentials at Pro-Tuition

At Pro-Tuition, no two students have the same needs, but all teachers share the same goal.

Some students are years behind where they should be; others just need someone to help them believe they can do it. Then there are the high-flyers who need extending beyond the standard curriculum.

And teachers? They all want the same thing: to help every learner make real, measurable progress, no matter their starting point.

Schalk Meyer, the founder of Pro-Tuition, knows this reality better than anyone. His team of teachers offers professional tutoring services for primary and secondary students in maths, English and reading.

Not coincidentally, meeting students where they are and offering curriculum-aligned support is the same purpose that drives every product we create at 3P Learning.

Pro-Tuition started using our programs – namely Reading Eggs, Mathseeds and Mathletics – back in 2020. Five years on, Meyer has seen what works. This year, he upgraded to 3 Essentials, the most seamless (and cost-effective) way to use our products together.

3 Essentials is one integrated package that unifies all our literacy and numeracy programs on one platform and under one login. For tutors and teachers alike, 3 Essentials eliminates the need to manage multiple subscriptions or switch between different platforms for different subjects – with the added bonus of securing better value than buying separate subscriptions.

“3P Learning [home of 3 Essentials] is working perfectly for us because it’s really covering all the curriculum needs for us specifically.”

Shared goals make for strong partnerships. When two organisations are equally focused on helping students thrive in reading, writing and maths, the outcomes are stronger – as proven by the lifted results students demonstrate in their schools.

A partnership built on curriculum alignment and the right support for every teacher

Pro-Tuition works with a team of qualified teachers, and like most teams, everyone brings different experience to the table. One teacher might have years of Year 4 and 5 under their belt but has never actually taught Year 6. Another knows Key Stage 2 inside out but hasn’t worked much with early years.

As a consequence, teachers naturally felt less confident stepping into unfamiliar year groups – not because they weren’t capable, but because they hadn’t taught that specific curriculum content before. When you’re working one-to-one with students who need targeted support, that uncertainty matters.

After sorting through many generic learning solutions, Meyer found something his team could truly rely on: well-established, curriculum-aligned resources that gave teachers confidence they were meeting each student’s needs – the programs offered by 3P Learning.

“We know exactly what needs to be covered because it’s linking back to the curriculum. That’s really, really useful for us.” Meyer explains.

From multiple programs to one solution: How 3 Essentials became Pro-Tuition’s ‘one-stop shop’

Pro-Tuition had long relied on individual 3P Learning programs, each delivering strong outcomes. With the release of 3 Essentials in 2024, they saw an opportunity to consolidate their core tools into one platform, which made it easier to support students from Reception to Year 11 in a consistent, streamlined way.

With Reading Eggs, Writing Legends, Mathseeds and Mathletics combined, everything became accessible through a single login. Students could move between reading, writing and maths programs from the same place, while teachers managed their groups, data and resources in one centralised location.

For a centre supporting learners from Reception through to Year 11, having the full age range covered under one roof also made day-to-day teaching far more practical.

“Because 3P Learning offers both the maths and English programmes from early years right through to the older kids, it’s a one-stop shop for us,” says Meyer.

“Now that we have 3 Essentials with one login, everything is on the same page… it’s really making life so much easier.”

Simple setup, strong outcomes: 3 Essentials in practice

Getting started with 3 Essentials proved straightforward, even for programs the team hadn’t used before. The platform includes introduction videos and tutorials that guide teachers through the features as they go. Meyer found this particularly helpful, as there was no steep learning curve, just a matter of taking the time to explore what was available.

“I would really encourage other users to explore because there’s so much to it,” he says.

Pro-Tuition adopted 3 Essentials as a teaching tool during lessons rather than as homework to be sent home. Students work with qualified teachers who monitor their progress in real time, stepping in when the data signals a problem. For example, when a student hits an amber question in Mathletics (indicating they scored 50–84%), the teacher pauses immediately to address the misconception. This means targeted intervention at precisely the right moment but without constant hovering.

The progress tracking serves a practical purpose for planning. Teachers can see what each student has covered, what percentages they’re achieving and where gaps remain. This becomes particularly valuable when working with students who have fallen behind: a Year 5 student working at Year 3 level can consolidate foundations in fractions before progressing to Year 5 content.

The breadth of coverage also supports diverse learners. Meyer recalls a Year 6 student who couldn’t read at all. They put him on Fast Phonics – a systematic synthetic phonics program designed for younger children – and he engaged with the characters and made substantial progress despite being 11.

“With Mathletics we can go all the way up to GCSE – that’s fantastic. We can also work with the little ones. Programs like Fast Phonics and Mathseeds are perfect for those still in Reception or Year 1.”

Lastly, let’s not underestimate the power of the built-in incentives (always a student favourite!). Students earn points as they work, which keeps them motivated and gives them something tangible to strive for.

Proof 3 Essentials is working: What parents and teachers are seeing

The feedback Pro-Tuition receives from parents tells them what they need to know: students enjoy coming to sessions, look forward to the next lesson and, most importantly, are making visible progress both at the centre and in school.

Teachers report that students are performing better in their regular classrooms – the kind of feedback that confirms: our programs are working.

Meyer doesn’t hesitate to recommend 3 Essentials to other tuition centres and schools. Pro-Tuition now operates across two locations, both using the platform successfully. While tuition centres like his may get the most direct benefit from the integrated approach, he sees value in students using the programs at home as well. That additional practice element can make all the difference.

When the goals align and the tools deliver, the partnership proves itself in the outcomes. For Pro-Tuition Essex, 3 Essentials has become exactly what they needed: one platform, all the curriculum coverage and the confidence that every student, regardless of where they’re starting from, has access to the right support.
