In 5th Grade Playing with Numbers Worksheet we will get different types of problem on simplification of numerical operations, simplification of brackets, factors, multiples, finding prime and composite numbers, tests for divisibility, properties of divisibility, prime factorisation, finding the HCF by the prime factorisation method, finding the HCF by the division method, finding the LCM by the prime factorisation method, finding the LCM by the division method, relation between HCF and LCM and word problems on HCF and LCM.

🔴 A number that divides a given number exactly is called a factor of that number.

🔴 A number is a multiple of each of its factors.

🔴 Various types of numbers:

  1. Those natural numbers, which have only two factors, viz., 1 and the number itself, are called prime numbers
  2. Two natural numbers are called co-primes, if they have no common factors other than 1
  3. Two consecutive odd prime nurnbers are known as twin-primes.
  4. Numbers which have more than two factors are called composite numbers.

🔴 Prime factorisation means writing a number as a product of prime factors.

🔴 The HCF or GCD of two or more numbers is the greatest number, which is a common factor of all the given numbers.

🔴 The LCM of two or more numbers is the smallest number, which is a common multiple of all the given numbers.

🔴 The product of any two numbers is equal to the product of their HCF and LCM.

🔴 Tests for Divisibility:

  1. If a number ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, it is divisible by 2
  2. If the sum of the digits of a number is divisible by 3, it is divisible by 3.
  3. If a number ends in two zeros or if the last two digits are divisible by 4, it is divisible by 4.
  4. If a number ends in 5 or 0, it is divisible by 5.
  5. If a number is divisible by 2 and also by 3, it is divisible by 6.
  6. If a number ends in three zeros or if the last three digits are divisible by 8, it is divisible by 8.
  7. If the sum of the digits is divisible by 9, it is divisible by 9.
  8. If a number ends in zero, it is divisible by 10.
  9. If the difference of the sums of digits at the alternate places of a number is divisible by 11, it is divisible by 11.
